Indiana Shelter Dog With Human-Like Face Up for Adoption

Some people say that after many years they begin to look like their dog, but in the case of an Indiana shelter dog up for adoption, many people are amazed at just how much his face resembles that of a human.

The Christian Science Monitor reports, Tonik is a 1-year old poodle and Shih Tzu mix available for adoption from the Homeward Bound Animal Welfare Group based in Mishawka, Indiana after being rescued from a high-kill shelter in neighboring Kentucky. Many say the expression on Tonik’s face looks eerily like a worried human being.

The fact that Shih Tzu dogs typically have flat faces also helps him look more human-like. But although humans and dogs may have had common ancestors millions of years ago, scientists say that anthropomorphism, the tendency that people have to ascribe human characteristics to animals and inanimate objects, is most likely the reason that many people think that Tonik is being celebrated as the dog with a human face.

Tonik came to us from a kill shelter in Kentucky and there is a very sweet boy in there who is trying to figure things out and enjoy people. It seems he has not had too much socialization. He is great with other dogs. He is not dangerous, but should not be placed with young children because he will get too overwhelmed. He will need a home with lots of patience & good energy. His approx.birth date is 02/01/11 and he weighs 11#. He has been vet. checked, neutered, micro chipped, heart worm tested negative is up to date on routine shots & wormings including rabies & has been treated with advantage multi per our protocol. He has been pro. groomed since his photos were taken. His adoption donation is $250 and needs to be cash, cashier’s check or money order. We do not ship or transport. Thanks to his new status as an Internet sensation, Tonik should hopefully find himself some adoptive parents soon. In the meantime, Homeward Bound, the northern Indiana animal welfare group that took him in, is getting him up to date on his shots and prepping him for life in a new home.
