Kate Upton gets SI cover twice in a row

Kate Upton has landed the Swimsuit edition of Sports Illustrated for the second time, solidifying herself as one of the world's top models and completing a feat that hasn't been done since the late eighties when Elle Macpherson graced the cover three times.

Upton made headlines last year when her cover photo showed the blonde bombshell's assets barely covered by an extremely skimpy bikini.

This actually marks Upton's third straight appearance on the cover, counting an inset pic in 2011, when she was named SI's Rookie of the Year.

"Congratulations Ms.@kateupton !! Making history!" tweeted 2010 cover girl Brooklyn Decker.

This year the super model and commercial actor graces the cover while on a boat in the Antarctic.

Upton is wearing an unzipped Winter Jacket and a tiny white bikini bottom, while glaciers appear to float by in the background. While Sports Illustrated wanted to reveal the cover Monday on the David Letterman Show, the cover was leaked this weekend and Sports Illustrated confirmed it this morning.

Other models considered for the part included Hannah Davis, girlfriend of Yankees Shortstop Derek Jeter, Julie Henderson and Katherine Webb.

The issue lands on newsstands Tuesday.
