Sunday afternoon, officials reported Mindy McCready, age 37, was found dead in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on the front porch of a house. Deputies were responding to reports of shots fired, and found McCready with what appeared to be "a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound."
Cleburne County Sheriff Marty Moss said Monday that it appears McCready killed her late boyfriend David Wilson's dog before she turned the gun on herself Sunday. The dog and McCready were found dead next to one another the home in Heber Springs, a vacation community about 65 miles north of Little Rock. Moss says the dog's body was next to McCready's.
McCready's body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an investigation and an autopsy. McCready was known for her albums "If I Don't Stay the Night" and "Ten Thousand Angels".
McCready's personal life of late had been full of drama. In 2004, she was put on parole, due to a conviction of prescription drug fraud.
After violating parole terms, she was incarcerated briefly. She took part of VH1's reality show "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" where she admitted to an addiction to violent relationships. Her long-term boyfriend, the father of one of her sons, committed suicide, by an alleged self-inflicted gunshot, but his death was considered suspicious and was still under investigation. McCready has been questioned about the circumstances of his death. She has been in and out of drug rehabilitation over the past few years.
Most recently after the death of her boyfriend, a judge had ordered McCready to rehabilitation for concern of depression and suicide, but only a day later, she was released for outpatient treatment instead.
McCready leaves behind a six year old son and a one year old son, who was the son of McCready's recently deceased boyfriend. Country music fans everywhere have tweeted their sadness and condolences to McCready's family.
