A political science professor in West Virgnia has caused uproar by refusing to accept the Fox News Channel as a legitimate news source for the political science course she teaches. Stephanie Wolfe of West Liberty University in West Virginia provided students with a list of sources not to be used on her courses, which included Fox News and The Onion website.
According to the Huffington Post, professor Wolfe caused anger in the local community by describing Fox News as a biased news channel that made her cringe.
Local TV and radio stations in West Virginia began a debate on the subject after angry parents contacted media outlets with news of the Fox News ban. West Liberty University President Robin Capehart stated the academic institution defended the right to academic frredom of both students and faculty members; Wolfe has since backtracked on her decision to ban the news source and claims the list was a suggestion of which sources should be used by students.
