Oprah Winfrey is now insisting that she never suffered a complete mental breakdown as many media sources have been reporting.
She told fans via her Twitter feed recently that comments she made about being overstressed and on the verge of a mental collapse last year have been taken out of context and made her situation seem more serious than it actually was. Winfrey is insisting that contrary to media reports, she never experienced a mental breakdown and was never even close to this condition.
Winfrey insists she was simply dealing with feelings of exhaustion after months of struggling to get her fledging OWN network on solid ground. She admits that the stress of everything that was happening in her life last year made her feel like she wanted to run naked through the streets and that she was reaching a very serious point of no return mentally.
The 59-year-old billionaire says it was while filming scenes for the civil rights film The Butler that she realized she was in the midst of a breakdown.
“I thought, ‘All right, if I don’t calm down I’m gonna be in serious trouble.’
“I was in the middle of doing voiceovers, you know? And I remember closing my eyes in between each page because looking at the page and the words at the same time was too much stimulation for my brain.
But Winfrey says that media sources blew her original comments way out of proportion and that instead of suffering a mental breakdown, she was simply the victim of being overworked.
She says she has since learned a lesson from her dog Gracie, an animal who was always on the run and who has since died, that it may be time for her to finally slow down.
