[caption id="attachment_73091" align="aligncenter" width="418"] Photo: Jay Tamboll[/caption]Don't ever accuse actor Tom Cruise of not being the perfect father to daughter Suri since divorcing former spouse, actress Kati Holmes. Not unless you want to be the target of a lawsuit.
Cruise's lawyer sent the publishers of Life & Style a letter on July 18, 2012 objecting to its July 30 cover headline "Suri in Tears, Abandoned by Her Dad" and story entitled "Suri's Emotional Struggle".
Cruise filed legal action in the amount of $50 million against Bauer Publishing for stories they printed throughout 2012 alleging that Cruise abandoned his daughter after divorce proceedings involving Holmes was finalized. Court documents indicate that Cruise claims that his contact with his daughter did not diminish simply because he divorced her mother, and that articles that stated that Cruise sought to cut all ties with Suri, including financially and emotionally, were totally false. According to the lawsuit obtained by ABCNews.com.
Cruise’s lawyers are asking a judge to order Bauer to declare it didn’t have any sources to support its contentions about his parenting role.
Cruise also claims in filed legal documents that he made the effort to stay in touch with his daughter even when film assignments required travelling all over the world. Cruise admits that his film career has been in high gear since the divorce, but that he has managed to stay in touch with Suri as often as possible through regular e-mail correspondence with Holmes. Cruise characterizes his phone calls to Suri as "cheerful" and describes her as a happy child who misses her dad whenever his entertainment career causes his physical absence.
