After the result of a massive investigation, a Hamilton woman was finally located and told she had won the lottery.

It was nearly a year after the sale of a winning Lotto Max ticket, but lottery investigators finally located the purchaser of the November 30, 2012 ticket.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming officials took several months of hard detective work before they finally identified the winning ticket purchaser as Hamilton, Ontario resident Kathryn Jones. She had lost the ticket after purchasing it.

During the course of the investigation, Ontario Lottery and Gaming officials stated to the Toronto Star that over 400 inquires had been received concerning the missing ticket, but unbelievably not one inquiry was from the winner, Ms. Jones.

After determining the Kathryn Jones had indeed purchased the ticket from the store, she had also bought purchase information on the ticket, lottery officials learned that her sister also owns a small store that sells lottery tickets.

In view of this information, a third party investigation has been called to determine if the the lost winning ticket was indeed legally purchased.

Jones says she had no idea she even had a winning ticket.

“As you can imagine this has been a very weird and wonderful journey,” she said during a press conference held Tuesday to announce her as the winner.

“I feel almost as though I have been struck by lightning twice because first to win is pretty incredible, but then to lose a ticket and then to have OLG find me and take the initiative to actually contact me is also pretty incredible,” Jones said.

Before this, the largest unclaimed lottery prize was for just 5 million dollars.

This Frday's Lotto Max jackpot will be $50-Million, with 19 additional $1-million dollar prizes.
