Lizzie McGuire's Teacher Passes Away at Age 49

 

Daniel R. Escobar, who played the character of Mr. Escobar, on the Disney Show Lizzie McGuire from 2001 to 2002 has died from complications stemming from diabetes. Escobar was only 49-years-old. On the set of the show, Mr. Escobar was the Hillridge Junior High School's Drama/Chorus teacher. He also presided over student detention.Escobar studied at Southern Methodist University (SMU) where he eventually earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts. He also honed his acting skills at the renowned Shakespeare Theatre Company located in the nation’s capital. In addition to his role in the Lizzy McGuire series, he made appearances on the following television shows:

  • Charmed
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • Desperate Housewives
  • Dharma & Greg
  • Malcolm in the Middle
  • NYPD Blue
  • Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
  • Two and a Half Men
  • Weeds
  • Whitney and How I Met Your Mother

Escobar's most notable acting achievement was the 2008 Helen Hayes Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as the character Simon in the play "She Stoops to Comedy" which ran at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C.
