Fans of the popular Showtime series "Homeland" have come to associate the show with English actor Damien Lewis in the role as former Delta Force operative Nicholas Brody. Well, Showtime is banking that what fans really enjoyed was a political drama centered on current espionage themes. This is because the character Nicholas Brody will get executed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in the upcoming season finale.

With the departure of Lewis, actress Morena Baccarin, who played Brody's wife, will no longer be needed. Her fate also holds true for actors Jackson Pace and Morgan Saylor who played Brody's children Chris and Dana respectively. As per the screen writers, Lewis was never intended to last more than the first season. However, his was a classic case of a versatile actor bringing so much dimension to the series that the screen writers altered the course of the show on his account.

It's also clear that Lewis had his allies on the show. The death of his character was said to have been hotly contested amongst the producers. The series has been critically acclaimed and won numerous Emmy awards including the 2012 Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" for Lewis.
