"Good Morning America" news anchor Robin Roberts has made it official about her sexual orientation with a recent post on her Facebook page. Roberts has come out of the closet in acknowledging the help and support she received from Amber Laign, a woman she calls her "longtime girlfriend." Roberts recent comments referred to looking forward to the New Year following many months of ill health due to myelodysplastic syndrome which required her to receive a blood marrow transplant from her sister in the fall of 2012. She returned to her GMA duties on a part time basis in February of this year.

"At this moment I am at peace and filled with joy and gratitude," she wrote. "I am grateful to God, my doctors and nurses for my restored good health. I am grateful for my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together. I am grateful for the many prayers and well wishes for my recovery. I return every one of them to you 100 fold. On this last Sunday of 2013 I encourage you to reflect on what you are grateful for too."

The fact that Roberts is lesbian has not been hidden from her family members, friends or close associates on the show, but her Facebook post was the first time she has let her fans know that she is gay. She encouraged her fans not to become depressed or anxious by living in the past and acknowledged that she has found peace by staying focused on the joys of the present moment. She also expressed the deep gratitude she felt to God and specific people in her life, including her partner, for the help they have given her.
