Julian Fellowes is a successful screen writer and actor with his most notable triumph being what he believed would be a little known period piece called "Downton Abbey". Since creating the series, he has watched the show become an international sensation and a ratings winner for public funded television networks like no other.

Now, he has confirmed he is leaving the show to embark on a new project called "The Gilded Cage". His departure generated rumors that "Downton Abbey" will be canceled. In an effort to set the record straight, Gareth Neame, the shows Execute Producer, has quashed those rumors insisting that plans are underway for a fifth season of the series. He also stated that he cannot comment on what will happen after season 5 because the show is renewed annually.

Season 4 of the series has already aired in the United Kingdom and has started running in Canada and the United States. Thus far, its ratings have been the highest to date. Prior seasons of the series have become available as box sets on DVD. As a testament to its popularity, Amazon reported that Season One became their highest selling box set of any TV series surpassing "The Sopranos" in sales.
