Los Angela, California - Natalie Denise Suleman aka Nadya aka Octomom has been charged with one count of welfare fraud and two counts of perjury in her application for benefits. Apparently, the mother of 14 children ages 5 through 12 earned income of $30,000, but collected welfare benefits as if she had not earned any income. That is a big no-no. While welfare assistance is rife with fraud, authorities do come down hard on those few that they find abusing taxpayer assistance.

According to USA Today, Suleman is accused of receiving $9,814 in CalFresh aid, the food aid program known elsewhere as the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), without disclosing her income. She is also accused of receiving $6,667 in aid she was not entitled to from CalWORKS, the welfare program that provides cash aid and services to eligible needy California families.

As statistics show, the path of a single mother is a one way ticket to a poor education and generational poverty not as an absolute, but as a probability. Mrs. Suleman has had more than her share of difficulties stemming from her multiple child births. Thus far, no man has been willing to have a long-term relationship with her and provide for so many children. Her efforts to obtain gainful employment have largely stemmed from self-exploitation such as her sex tape and sale of lurid semi-naked photographs.

If convicted, she faces up to five years and eight months in jail.

The pressure to provide for so many children alone has taken a toll on her. Last year, she spent time in rehabilitation for exhaustion, anxiety & stress issues related to the care of so many minors.

Suleman gained worldwide attention in 2009 when she gave birth to octuplets and was instantly known as "Octomom."

An account on Twitter that purports to be Suleman's has not been updated since last September. In the account profile, she describes herself as: "Model/mom and Model Mom.''
