Grad Student Sues over Final Class Grade

A graduate student from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania is suing the professor that gave her a C+ and the university because she claims that the grade has kept her from becoming a licensed therapist, thus losing more than $1 million in potential earnings.

The judge overseeing the case chose not to dismiss the lawsuit, citing that there is not enough possible cause for the case to proceed.

The professor being sued claims that Megan Thode participated inappropriately in class (with emotional outbursts), and got the grade she deserved.

Thode received 0 out of 25 points for class participation, dropping her grade from an A to a C+. The lower grade prevented Thode from being able to take the next class required for her desired degree.

Thode states that the professor docked her grade because she is a vocal supporter of gay marriage.

Her professor Amanda Eckhardt states that she would not allow personal feelings to dictate a grade, although she does feel marriage should be exclusively between a male and female.

“I … believed she received the grade she earned,” Eckhardt said.
