Cops commits suicide

Policemen are officers of the law but even they are susceptible to mistakes and error, as a recent story has proven.

On Sunday, an off-duty policeman in Athens, Greece shot himself to death with his own service handgun. The reason for the suicide, according to authorities was because the office in question was feeling remorse after he knocked over and killed an elderly woman in a traffic accident in Athens. The accident took place in the Halandri suburb in the city of Athens this past Sunday.

For the most part, the exact details of the officer hitting the elderly woman with his motorcycle are not clear. However, the witnesses that were around at the time suggest that shortly after the crash the officer walked into a parking lot and then shot himself. The officer was 28 years old and the incident had occurred in the later evening hours. No names are being mentioned at this time, but it is being reported that the brother of the now deceased officer is also a policeman.

Also in Athens, the Public Order Minister Nikos Dendias said Monday he felt “crushed” by the accident and expressed sympathy for both of the families.
