Health Study Claims Being Both Obese and Healthy is Not Possible

Toronto, Canada – Body Mass Index (BMI) is a medical term which is calculated as the quotient of a person’s weight divided by the square of their height and multiplied by the number 703. That is the technical calculation. However, put in layman’s terms it approximates the percentage body fat of a person. Obesity is the designation given to anyone with a BMI greater than 30.0.

Now, it bears mentioning that for most people, the path to a BMI greater than or equal to 30 is laid with bon-bons, chips, sodas, pizza, burgers, quesadillas, microwave popcorn, fast food, and candy. Against that backdrop no one would expect an obese person to be the picture of health.

Well, the obvious has been further bolstered by a study released by researchers at Mount Sinai Hospital. Information was gathered from eight case studies on obesity over the 63 year period of 1950 to 2013. The conclusion they determined is that obese people are more prone to die prematurely of strokes or heart attacks stemming from a diet rich in artery clogging foods. When obesity is coupled with a sedentary lifestyle, the risk of metabolic syndromes such as type II diabetes increases. Losing weight via healthy dieting and exercise will reduce those risks as any fan of the show “The Biggest Loser” already understands.

The study will be published Dec. 3 in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
