Honest Taxi Driver Returns Cash

On Monday, December 25, taxi driver Gerardo Gamboa was told by a doorman at the Bellagio that there was a bag on the back seat.

Thinking it was chocolate, Gamboa opened it. Instead of candy though, he found $300,000 cash broken down by six $50,000 bundles. In interviews with the press, Gamboa stated he thought “Oh my God! This is cash money!”

Gamboa called his supervisor Bill Shranko at Yellow Checker Star Transportation immediately and found out soon after that the money belonged to a famous poker player.

When Gamboa was asked if he thought for an instant to keep the money, his reply was “Oh no, no, not even, not even one second, no…I did the right thing for myself, for my family, for my company and the city of Las Vegas.”

Because of Gamboa’s loyal 13 years of service, he received a $1,000 reward from his employer and a paid night out for two. He was also named driver of the year.

The anonymous gambler implied when he picked up the cash that he would reward Gamboa. It is not known if he has since rewarded Gamboa in any way.
