Reports have surfaced that troubled NBA star Lamar Odom has checked himself into a drug and alcohol treatment clinic, only days after being arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
The co-star of the reality show “Khloe & Lamar” was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol on Highway 101 in the early hours of Friday morning after the arresting officers observed what they called “signs of intoxication.” After failing a sobriety test, Odom was brought in by police to the Van Nuys jail and later released on a $15,000 bond.
Odom, currently an unsigned free agent, has a history of trouble with drug use. He came from a home where his father battled heroin addiction, and in 2001 he was twice found in violation of NBA drug policy in a period of eight months. He additionally admitted to marijuana use in 2003. Despite these setbacks, Odom has ultimately been successful in the NBA as part of two championship teams, but TMZ has reported that sources close to Odom have concerns that he is once again involved with drugs. A man claiming to be Odom’s drug dealer gave an interview to Radar Online in August, alleging that Odom has spent $50,000 in the past three years on cocaine.
Odom’s personal life has been in the news recently as well, with reports of trouble in his marraige to celebrity wife Khloe Kardashian. The two have not been seen together in public since early June, when the Kardashian family attempted to stage an intervention that Odom walked out of. A TMZ report claims that sources close to the couple heard from Khloe that she was unaware of his intention to check into rehab, despite having pleaded with him to get help.
Odom has yet to make any public comment on the matter.
