laroy reynolds loses helmet and makes big tackle

The season finale for the Jacksonville Jaguars on December, 29th may not have had any meaning to the franchise that had struggled to a 4-11 record and stands to receive one of the top picks in the NFL draft next season. A victory against the division champion Indianapolis Colts would really mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Someone forgot to tell back-up linebacker LaRoy Reynolds that the game was meaningless.

In the first quarter and already down 7-0 the Jaguars were forced to punt the ball away. Cam Johnson was assigned to block Reynolds on special teams. The two players were engaged in a block when Reynolds’ helmet popped off of his head. Undeterred Reynolds broke free from Johnson and eventually helped track down Griff Whalen who was returning the kick for the colts. Reynolds secured an assisted tackle in the stats sheet without his headgear.

The well documented and talked about play helped remove some of the tarnish from Reynolds’ black cloud of a first season. He fought hard as an undrafted free agent to make the Jaguars roster but was promptly suspended for four games in November for testing positive for a banned substance. The University of Virginia product spent most of the season on special teams. He made 15 tackles on the season.
