lorde lands new deal worth 2.5 million
Yellich “Ella” O’Connor aka Lorde has signed a contract worth $2.5 million with Songs Music Publishing. The contract marks her first big deal in the music business. As the singer Lorde, the teenager from New Zealand scored a number one hit in two key markets: the United States and Great Britain with the song “Royals”. Numerous artists over the years have tried in vain to gain crossover success, but this youngster has it from the get go.
It should be noted that what the publisher is primarily after her skills as a song writer. Ron Perry, president of Songs Publishing, declared that Ms. O’Conner is a once in a generation lyricist that will produce commercially successful songs for a number of key artists. Perry is preparing for their other record acts such as The Weekend and Diplo to receive songs from Ms. O’Conner.
The youngster from Auckland has already made music history as the first New Zealand artist to score a number one hit in the United States. She has now received four Grammy Award nominations two of which are in the highly prestigious “Song of the Year” and “Record of the Year”. She is also up for the “Best Pop Vocal Album”.
