Saudi Man at 1,345-lbs Fork-Lifted from Home

No one is quite sure what went wrong in the life of twenty year old Khalid bin Mohsen Shaari of Saudi Arabia that has resulted in him weighing 1,345-lbs (IE 96 stone or 610 kg). It would be easy to judge him and say that the young man ate TDM to get to his current weight. (TDM = too damn much)

Regardless, Shaari has a legitimate health concern and is unable to help himself. That prompted none other than King Abdullah to order his rescue and medical treatment citing the justification as “humanitarian”. In deed it is. A special bed was ordered from the United States which bed took six months to arrive.

At the time of his rescue, Shaari had to be forklifted from his home in his bed no less. The youth was seen sporting dark shades and looking upbeat. While his rescue did appear as somewhat of a spectacle, it is one step towards him regaining his life. At the King Fahd Medical Center, he will be put on a strict diet and health regimen to lose weight.

Mr Shaeri’s cousin Naser Makke told the Daily Mail he was relived he had finally been sent for treatment.

He said: ‘We have been waiting for this moment for a long time, the King, may God protect him and give him the long life, had given his instructions to the ministry of health to do all the arrangements to transfer the patient for treatment in a safe way.’

According to a report from CNN, Kuwait has the highest proportion of obese adults in the Middle East, with 42.8% of its population considered severely overweight. Saudi Arabia follows at 35.2%.

Will his weight condition require surgery in order to manage? Perhaps. Doctors have not ruled out that possibility just yet, but are giving non-surgical methods first priority.

According to Guinness World Records, the record weight for a living person is held by Manuel Uribe from Mexico, who weighed 1,235 pounds (560kg) in 2006. After making a television appeal for help, his weight in March 2012 had fallen to 980 pounds (444.6 kg.)

The king asked for Mr Shaeri to be taken to hospital six months ago but treatment was delayed until a special bed could be made for him in the United States
