McDonalds Rampage Thwarted By Malfunctioning Pistol
Mass Shooting at McDonald’s Avoided by Malfunctioning Pistol
The only thing that prevented a mass shooting inside a Fort Worth McDonald’s was the malfunctioning firearm carried by the would-be robber, Jestin Anthony Joseph, 24, of Allen, Texas.
The gunman reportedly walked into the McDonald’s restaurant, requested a cup of water from one of the employees, and then pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, pointing it at patrons and employees while demanding they give up their belongings.
According to police, the surveillance footage shows Joseph repeatedly pulling the trigger while pointing the gun at several individuals within the restaurant, only to have the gun misfire. Joseph then left the restaurant, successfully firing the gun into the air and at a passing car. Police were uncertain why the gun fired in these instances and not while Joseph was inside the restaurant, with Sgt. Joe Loughman saying, “I’ve never seen anything like that before. It must not have been their time to go.”
Joseph’s mother believes that he was suffering from a mental breakdown, and even alerted police before the robbery attempt that her son may be suicidal.
Joseph was booked into Mansfield jail Wednesday night with bail set at $500,000 for outstanding warrants and suspicion of five counts of aggravated robbery.
