Oregon Mother Convicted of Killing Son She Considered Gay

Jessica Dutro, a 25-year old mother living in Washington County, Oregon, was so distraught over the possibility that her 4-year old son was homosexual, she subjected him to regular beatings and ultimately wound up killing him. Now a jury has found her guilty of murder, assault, and five counts of murder by abuse. The prosecution in the case presented evidence that Dutro even beat the youngster in the presence of another 7 year old child while she and her boyfriend were living at a homeless shelter in Tigard, Oregon, during the summer of 2012.

The prosecution contended that Dutro beat her son Zachary because she was fearful that he was gay, and subjected him to systematic beatings that left him feeling less than human. Dutro showed no emotion when the court verdict was announced, giving credence to the prosecuting attorney’s insistence that she was a narcissistic mother who was not concerned in the least about the welfare of her 4-year old son. Her defense attorney insisted unsuccessfully that Zachary’s murder was caused by Dutro’s boyfriend, Brian Canady, who has since taken a plea deal from the district attorney’s office. It is not known when Dutro will receive her sentence.
