Oscar Mayers Announces App to Awake Users to the Smell of Sizzling Bacon

Sandwich meat and bacon giant Oscar Mayer has announced a quite peculiar iPhone app: an alarm that wakes up users to the sound of sizzling bacon. However, those who visit the websitewakeupandsmellthebacon.com can apply for an adapter that will emit the smell of the sizzling bacon to accompany the sound. This allows bacon lovers to awake to the delightful sound of the popular breakfast meat. For sure, the application is not for everyone, but it would have brought a smile more than once to the character Veronica Mars, who loved being woken up to the smell of bacon.

Oscar Mayer cites the fact that two million people have tagged "#Bacon" on Instagram and the fact that bacon is one of those foods that people don't seem to get tired of eating. This is a novelty item and promotion that will only run through April 4. So those looking to get the complete app + plug-in need to move with haste. The innovative technology comes direct from the labs of the Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon.

It bears mentioning that Oscar Mayer has a history of making novel pitches for their products. The Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile continues to tour the country after more than seven decades. The hot dog shaped vehicle has endured World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, Watergate, and both Gulf Wars. This latest app may not make such a big mark on history, but it does add to the company's unique image of American exceptionalism.
