For the first time since 2009, the Williams sister faced each other in a professional tournament. However, Venus proved no match against her younger sister Serena losing handily 6-1 and 6-2. The classic match-up was set into motion after Serena and Venus Williams both advanced to the semi-finals in the Family Circle Cup tournament.
For her part, Serena Williams is on a tear as of late completing her 13th straight victory en route to the semi-finals. A healthy Serena Williams has been unstoppable. Serena defeated both Lucie Safarova and Mallory Burdette to advance to the semi-finals.
Venus struggled against Varvara Lepchenko but rallied back to win. Afterwards, she easily overcame Madison Keys to advance to the semi-finals. Those who were hoping to see a hard fought match between the two sisters were disappointed. Serena appeared to struggle with the idea of easily beating her older sister.
After all, blood is thicker than water. Venus suffered a back injury in March and isn’t at 100% of her ability at this time. She later expressed joy that her sister would be advancing to the finals.
After the match, the two sisters greeted one another, and it was obvious the respect and love they hold for one another is strong.
