South Africa Prepares for the Funeral of Nelson Mandela

Updated

Johannesburg, South Africa – The attention of the world will be focused on the funeral services for the fledgling democracy of South Africa. The nation’s period of racial oppression ended in the early 1990s with the rise of Nelson Mandela as their first black president.

The memorial service will be held at the FNB Stadium which has a maximum capacity of over 94,000 people. It is an understatement to assert that security will be tight at the facility. The South African government has prepared its strictest security measures to ensure the lives of visiting dignitaries which include US President Barrack Obama and his wife Michelle. The government’s Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation has said that every event and visitor will be safe.

The government has deployed intelligence services, law enforcement officers, and military police to ensure the safety of those attending the various services. Overflow stadiums are being used for those who will be attending the funeral service. The overflow stadiums will hold another 125,000 attendees.

Events celebrating his life began nationwide yesterday and will continue up to his actual burial in his birth place of Qunu this coming Sunday. In his death, he once again reunited his countrymen much as he did during his presidency.
