American Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn shared a graphic photograph of her injured leg with fans via both Facebook and twitter yesterday.
Vonn was participating in Austria's Alpine Ski World Championships when she wiped out on the Super-G course.
The injury tore both the right knee's ACL and MCL ligaments, in addition to a fractured bone.
Vonn posted the following comment on Facebook: "My knee looks...um...not very good....". She also twittered the following remark regarding her leg: "#longskirtsthissummer".
The 28 year old skier revealed a badly swollen leg that sports what are no doubt some deep and sensitive bruises. Her sponsor Red Bull is using the occasion for a new round of advertisements featuring an injured Vonn in physical rehabilitation under with the caption: "'Not letting obstacles stand in your way".
Dr. Bill Sterett, the physician for the U.S. Ski Team that performed Vonn’s surgery, also confirmed that it was a success and said that it is currently too early to issue a specific prognosis.
“The overall success rate for ACL/MCL surgery is very good. Modern surgical techniques combined with aggressive rehabilitation will help Lindsey make a full recovery,” Sterett said in a statement. “She will do everything in her power to return as quickly as possible to competitive skiing.”
Following her injury, Vonn was rushed to a nearby hospital and then flown back to Colorado by Tiger Woods. The rumor mill is actively stating that Vonn and Woods are romantically involved but this in unconfirmed.
