Teacher sends not home about smelly pre-k students

Sharon D. Perry Dunnigan is a veteran teacher who has found herself in a little trouble. The teacher sent her pre-kindergarten students home with letters about their hygiene. The note told parents that some of the children were coming to class with dirty clothing and some of the smelled badly. She required that the parents sign the note and send it back so that she knew they had read it. She even went as far to say that the problem made her not want to touch the children.

Parents were displeased with the letter and addressed it to the school board. The board has added a letter to the teacher’s personnel file that reprimands her behavior. They are discussing further action and parents want an apology. The teacher stated that she has no intentions of issuing an apology to parents and students.

Several ideas have been given to the teacher in order to help her address such problems. She has turned those opportunities down. She is no longer permitted to send any notes home with students without the express permission of the school administrators. Dunnigan turned down an interview in order to explain her position on the controversy. She did not report to work on Thursday or Friday.
