Officials at the Trafalgar House police station in Bradford were more than surprised when a man dressed up as the comic book hero "Batman" walked into the station to turn over an individual wanted in connection with a case involving fraud and stolen merchandise.
According to Wired, Batman quietly approached the helpdesk at the station and turned over a man, stating simply "I've caught this one for you" before promptly leaving, presumably to resume his crime fighting efforts elsewhere in the city.
A representative for the police verified that the crimefighter was outfitted in a detailed Batman costume but his identity remains a secret.
hey described the incident on their Facebook page:
Batman came into the helpdesk, stated to the staff “I’ve caught this one for you” and then promptly vanished into the night to fight crime and the fear of crime in Bradford. The whole bizarre incident was captured on CCTV… The wanted male, a 27yr old from the Buttershaw area was detained until the morning when he was escorted to court in Grimsby as he was also wanted for an offence in that area also. This post is meant as a bit of a light hearted news.
Because the incident was captured on film, local news media are working feverishly to uncover just who is the private citizen dressing up at night to fight crime under the guise of the Caped Crusader created by cartoonist Bob Kane. Many are hoping the masked face might actually reveal someone famous.
Bookmakers in Britain say that the odds are heavily favored that the man pretending to be Batman might actually be one of the country's most well-known illusionists, Steven Frayne. Others are betting that if Batman is unmasked, the face revealed will belong to soccer player Dean Windass, broadcaster Alan Titchmarsh or Zayn Malik of One Direction.
Identity of Crusading British Batman Revealed
After much speculation throughout Great Britain as to the identity of the do-gooder who recently walked into a Bradford police station dressed as "Batman" to deliver a man wanted in the questioning for several crimes, it's been revealed that 39-year old Stan Worby is the man behind the crusader's cowl.
Worby is a delivery man for a local Chinese foodservice establishment and the man he turned in was actually a friend of his who was going to turn himself into authorities anyway regarding several incidents of fraud and stolen property. Worby said his appearance at the police station was more or less meant to be a joke and he felt insulted that many news media reported that he looked fat in the Batman costume.
Worby explained that he only looked chubby because he was wearing a track suit underneath the "Batman" uniform in order to stay warm on a cold winter's night.
