Prince William Pays Tribute to the Late Nelson Mandela

Prince William, heir to the throne of England, was the latest prominent person to pay tribute to the late Nelson Mandela who died last week of complications due to pneumonia in his home. In his tribute, the prince said the former president of South African president's death was extremely sad and tragic. While the words were kind, Nelson Mandela died at the ripe old age of 95 after living an extraordinary life.
In a coincidence, the prince and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were attending a Royal premier of the film "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" starring English actor as Nelson Mandela and actress Naomie Harris as Mandela's ex-wife Winnie Mandela when news broke out of the Mandela's death. Both film stars were attending the special screening of the movie.
Speaking in the foyer of the Leicester Square Odeon afterwards, the Prince said: "I just wanted to say it's extremely sad and tragic news. We were just reminded what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. It's very sad."
The British Cricket Team wore black arm bands in silent tribute to Mr. Mandela. The team was preparing for a match against Australia. The condolences being offered regarding Mr. Mandela are pouring in from all over the world. In English society, condolences have been offered by former Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Arch Bishop of Canterbury, and British Formula 1 Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton. It illustrates that Mr. Mandela’s prominence was not limited to that of a head of state, but rather the leader of a movement.
