San Francisco, California - Greg Suhr, San Francisco Police Chief, has been shaken to his core over a recently announced Federal indictment of five of his police officers who were actively employed. A former police officer has also been indicted. Chief Suhr put it best when he said that short of officers losing their lives in the line of duty, this announcement is the worst imaginable scenario.

At a press conference, Chief Suhr confirmed that the accused officers worked at the police department's Southern Station. They are accused of drug dealing, theft, extortion, falsifying police reports, distributing controlled substances, absconding funds from federally-funded programs, and violating the civil rights of people.

Part of the indictment claims the officers would enter single occupancy hotel rooms in areas where they held no jurisdiction. Their purpose in doing so was to intimidate, threaten, coerce, and threaten the occupants.

Chief Suhr could not underscore how deeply this betrayal of the public trust has been. For the defendants’ part, they will now face lengthy prison sentences among a prison population that frowns on dirty police officers. It is not being reported whether the looming indictments may affect any cases where the officers offered up expert testimony leading to convictions.
