Playing the lottery is an American pastime, and it recently paid off in a big way for two lucky winners. The popular Mega Millions jackpot recently reached a mind-boggling $400 million, and people from across the United States feverishly purchased tickets in the hopes of striking it rich.

According to lottery officials, there were two tickets that matched all six winning numbers drawn on March 18th - one in Maryland, and one in Florida. The chances of one lottery ticket lining up with all six numbers is slim to none, but two tickets? Fate was on their side.

The winning numbers are: 11, 19, 24, 33 and 51, and if you got the Mega Ball number of 7, you're now a multi-millionaire.

Mega Millions is allowed to be played in 43 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and this jackpot made history as the sixth-largest prize ever offered for a lottery in the United States.

Once the winners step forward, they will split the $400 million prize money, making them instant millionaires and changing their lives forever. In Florida, lottery officials say the ticket was purchased at a Sunoco gas station; in Maryland, officials issued a tweet stating the winning ticket was bought in Charles County, narrowing it down for those nervously checking their tickets.

If only one winner steps forward, they will claim the entire jackpot amount in either several payments of a lump sum total of $224 million after taxes. Either way, it's a win-win situation.
