Yoko Ono Tweets Campaign Against Gun Violence

Yoko Ono, widow of Beatle John Lennon who was a victim of gun violence when a crazed fan shot him to death in New York City in 1980, has posted a series of anti-gun violence messages on Twitter. She included the sobering message that more than 1,057,000 people have been killed by gunfire since her husband and famed musician John Lennon lost his life after being shot to death outside their home in the Dakota Apartments in New York City on December 8, 1980.

Ono accompanied her tweet with a photo showing John Lennon’s eyeglasses, with one of the lenses covered in what appears to be dried blood.

The lenses are propped up against a window ledge with the Manhattan skyline visible in the distance.

Ono posted several additional messages after posting the one which dramatically showed Lennon’s bloodied eyeglasses.

She lamented that gun violence is turning what used to be a beautiful place to live into a war zone and said that although Lennon has been gone for 33 years, she and their son Sean continue to miss him on a daily basis.

Another tweet included the statistic of how many individuals lose their lives to guns in the U.S. on an annual basis, with another message inviting filmmaker Michael Moore to join her anti-gun violence efforts.

“Michael Moore @mmflint Join me to kick off a mass movement against gun violence from your living room on Sat March 23 – Yes! love, yoko”.
