2 wrong way crashes in Florida, California Leave 11 Dead
Little remained of a Ford Expedition that was involved a fiery crash that killed its driver and four young men in another vehicle. The Expedition was traveling the wrong way on I-275, troopers said.
Los Angeles, California – Initial reports of four people dead have now risen to six as a result of a horrific car crash on Freeway 60 on the outskirts of the city in the early morning hours today. A 21-year-old female by the name of Olivia Carolee Culbreath has been formally charged with driving under the influence along with vehicular manslaughter. The latter charge will likely be increased for multiple counts.
As for Culbreath, she is receiving medical treatment a ruptured bladder and broken femur. The accident started when she entered the wrong way on the freeway and crashed her red Camaro head-on into a Ford Explorer. The driver of a Ford Freestyle also collided into the cars, but it is not clear how the accident actually played out.
Sadly, some passengers were ejected from their vehicle in what became a gruesome and completely avoidable tragedy. Police found four victims dead at the crash site. Two others were taken to UCI Medical Center where they later succumbed to their injuries. The accident occurred at 4:40AM local time and shutdown the entire freeway. Police anticipated reopening the freeway at 1:30PM local time. In the words of one officer at the scene, the accident was “100% avoidable”.
Second Deadly Wrong Way Crash In Florida
According to Retuers, a Ford Expedition SUV traveling south on northbound Interstate 275 in Tampa, Florida, collided head-on with a Hyundai Sonata just after 2 a.m., killing the SUV driver and all four people in the other car, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The SUV became engulfed in flames, the patrol report said. The other vehicle was also damaged by fire. The driver and all three passengers in the car were members of the Sigma Beta Rho fraternity at the University of South Florida in Tampa, the patrol said.
The identity of SUV driver has not been confirmed due to extensive damage to the vehicle, the patrol said.
In total five people died in the Florida collision and six were killed in California.
The investigation on both scenes continus.
