Professional tennis player Agnieszka Radwanska is ranked #4 in the world and recently was a semi-finalist at Wimbledon, but her native Poland is making it clear to her that she’s no longer worthy of representing them.
Radwanska is Catholic in a nation that is 90% Catholic which makes her recent appearance in ESP Magazine’s special “Body Issue” hard for her countrymen to accept. The annual issue is akin to Sports Illustrated’s “Swimsuit Edition”. In the shoot, Radwanska takes nude photographs (sensitive body parts covered).
Some may call it art, but apparently there won’t be many Poles who would agree. Radwanska was a member of the Polish Youth organization which proudly proclaims a belief in the Savior.
However, the group has now expelled Radwanska as their ambassador citing her lascivious behavior.
Father Dziewiecki said that the photographs she took will be a perpetual source of embarrassment for her when meeting the family of any man vying for her affections. The cleric said she would be hiding the pictures.
‘If she meets a man who she can truly love and establish a happy family and raise Catholic children, then she would probably have to hide these pictures from relatives,” the Daily Mail reported Father Dziewiecki as saying.
‘It’s a shame that someone who has declared their love for Jesus is now promoting the mentality of men looking at a woman as a thing rather than a child of God worthy of respect and love.”
Really? They’re appearing in print in a widely circulated magazine. How would she “hide” them from anyone? Radwanska has certainly tested the limits of Christian tolerance. Radwanska was criticized for advancing the “mentality of men”.
Others have taken to Twitter to stand up for Radwanska, including Ryszard Czarnecki, a conservative Polish politician and member of the European Parliament.
“[She is] a pretty girl—slim and efficient,” Czarnecki wrote. “And you, are you jealous?”
No word yet on whether Radwanska plans on publicly addressing her dismissal
