Are aliens lurking in New Jersey lakes? A curious photo was recently posted on the Reddit website of an alien-like creature that was recently pulled from a New Jersey lake.

Officials from the Department of Environmental Conservation in New York State have reviewed the odd photo and report that the creature hanging at the end of a large spear in the photo is most likely a sea lamprey. Lampreys are water creatures very similar to eels who feed on other fish and sea life by attaching their sharp tongue and teeth onto their victims and then draining the body of all fluids.

Officials say that although the creature pictured in the photo appears to be gigantic in size, that perspective may be due to the camera angle or the fact that the image was photoshopped. Under normal conditions, sea lamprey only grow to a maximum length of about three feet.
