American Kenneth Bae Charged With Plot To Overthrow Regime In North Korea
North Korea Announces Verdict Coming Soon in Trial of US Citizen
Pyongyang, North Korea – officials have announced that a verdict is coming in the trial of American citizen Kenneth Brae who was tried for conspiracy to overthrow the regime. North Korea says that Brae’s trial before their Supreme Court concluded.
Brae faces the death penalty if convicted. North Korea often makes grand statements against any Americans who fall into their hands in an effort to exact additional concessions from the United States.
Brae is a native of North Korea who was born as “Pae Jun Ho”.
He was working in an economic zone of the impoverished nation. The zone lies along the China-Russia border. In typical fashion, the North Korea government has not specified crimes Brae is accused of committing. However, the long-standing dictatorship, known for its human rights abuses, claims that Brae has “confessed” to attempting to overthrow the regime.
Sweden has diplomatic recognition in North Korea, and members of its embassy were able to meet with Brae recently, but has not issued any statements regarding his physical condition.
Most releases of Americans held hostage in North Korea come after high-level interventions such as when Bill Clinton flew to North Korea to plead for the release of three US citizens.
