Cleveland Kidnapper Found Hung in Prison – Death Ruled Suicide

Orient, OH – Ariel Castro AKA “The Cleveland Kidnapper” was found dead just barely at the start of his 1,000 year prison sentence for the long-term imprisonment and rape of three women in the basement of his home in Cleveland.

Castro had been placed in an isolation unit where prison guards would check on him in half-hour intervals to ensure this safety. When he was first imprisoned, he was checked at ten minute intervals while he was on suicide watch, but that ended this past June.

At 9:20PM local time, guards at the Correctional Reception Center found Castro’s body hanging from the ceiling. Reports are that guards immediately tried to revive Castro and took him to the Ohio State University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 11:00PM local time.

Questions have arisen as to how the 53-year-old Castro would be able to manage his suicide right under the nose of prison guards. An investigation is being conducted to inquire into how that occurred, but it is likely the investigation is obligatory and not necessarily arising from any suspicion of impropriety.

Castro’s death has left the victim’s families feeling cheated that he did not pay sufficiently for this crimes.
