Artist Creates $39,000 Pink Diamond Bathtub
California artist Lori Gardner spent three years and used almost 45,000 pink crystal diamonds to decorate a 19th century cast-iron bathtub which she has dubbed The Diamond Bathtub. The unique claw-footed creation is on display as a Costa Mesa store called Fleur de Lys and has a price tag of $39,000. Each rose pink colored Swarovski crystal was applied to the exterior of the tub by Gardner’s own hand. The color pink was not arbitrarily chosen as the color choice for the diamonds, since the sale of this object d’art will benefit breast cancer research or the charity of the new owner’s choice.
Gardner has also recently added a matching baby bathtub for those who might want to bathe their toddlers in the lap of luxury. Priced at $3,800, just about one-tenth the price of The Diamond Bathtub, The Baby is available in signature pink Swarovski crystals as well as a range of other colors. Gardner suggests that if either The Diamond Bathtub or the smaller sized Baby Bathtub isn’t used by the owner for relaxing in cleansing bubbles, they can make a perfect container for chilling champagne or other bubbly beverages or can used as the ultimate pet bath.
