Ashley Judd Senator Bid: Judd On Leaked Tape

Judd on Wiretapping Comments

A recorded conversation between Republican campaign staffers critical of actress Ashley Judd and her past issues has been released. The negative comments about Judd were taped during a meeting of Senator Mitch McConnell’s staff to discuss the strategy for a possible Senate challenge from the actress.

The furor from many news outlets concerned what the staffers said about Judd’s past issues with depression. The actress was considered “extremely unbalanced” according to one comment and that there would be a wealth of public information to use against Judd.

Judd responded to the comments by saying “that she expected nothing less” from McConnell. Judd also called taped comments just “another example of the politics of personal destruction.”

“This is yet another example of the politics of personal destruction that embody Mitch McConnell and are pervasive in Washington, D.C.,” Judd said in a statement. “We expected nothing less from the Mitch McConnell and his camp to take a personal struggle such as depression, which many Americans cope with on a daily basis, and turn it into a laughing matter.”

Staffers had mentioned Judd’s mental breakdown and suicide issues that she had included in her autobiography. The meeting had been held on February 2 and Judd has since decided not to run for Congress.

What most reporters have avoided discussing was who illegally wiretapped the offices of Senator McConnell. The secretly recorded tape was released by the liberal magazine Mother Jones. The magazine has so far refused to disclose how they came in possession of the tape.

The FBI is actively investigating the illegal wiretapping.
