Baby Sold On Facebook For $15k: Reports

Grandfather Conspiracy Ends with Baby Sold on FaceBook

It is a story of deception in the highest degree. A healthy baby was born, but, that did not stop Feroz Khon, resident of India, from telling his daughter that her child was stillborn. Khon proceeded to steal the baby in order to sell him to a nurse for $830. Although shocking by any standard, that was not the end of this story. There are several twists and turns to the story that make it one of the most shocking cases in history.

The nurse who purchased the baby from the grandfather decided to take a cut of her own. She sold the baby to a lab technician at the hospital for $5500. The lab technician placed the baby for sale on FaceBook in an auction-like manner and he went to the highest bidder. The buyer was a businessman from New Guinea who paid $15,000 for the infant.

The baby’s mother became suspicious of her father’s claims that the baby was stillborn. That is when authorities were notified of possible illegal activities occurring. The investigation ended with five arrests, including the businessman who made the $15,000 winning bid.

“All three people who conspired to sell the child have been arrested and we will be interrogating the businessman who paid the money to buy the baby,” said Satish Malhotra, a police officer Ludhiana, northern India.

A guilty verdict could result in a seven year prison term for each offender. The hospital employees and grandfather have all been charged with kidnapping in the case.

The baby has since been returned to his mother.
