90,000 lbs of Beef Jerky Recalled

Salt Lake City, Utah – Prime Snax Inc. has recalled everything they made prior to February 2. There is no issue per se with the quality of the food being contaminated. Rather, their popular beef jerky products contain soy lecithin which is known to cause an allergic reaction in some people. However, a snafu omitted that ingredient prompting the company to issue a nationwide recall of their entire product line.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that the mislabeled products can be identified using either the establishment identifier “EST. 18951” or the expiration date of prior to “08 11 15”. Some of the products lines subject to the recall are Terrel & Kettle Creek, Southwest Trail, Desert Start, and Arizona Jack. Thankfully, no one has reported coming down with an allergic reaction to the soy lecithin content.

In all honesty, the soy lecithin is actually used to clean the equipment, but traces of it makes its way into the food product. Ew! It is for this reason that the company has to list item as an ingredient on the label. Kevin Howard, Prime Snax’s CEO, emphasized that the recall was voluntary. In all, 90,000 lbs of beef jerky are being recalled.
