Doctors Remove 48-year Old Bullet From Woman’s Head

A 62-year old Chinese woman who went to her doctor complaining of chronic headaches and nose pain got the surprise of her life when her physician discovered that there was a bullet lodged inside her nose. The female patient, identified only by her last name of Zhao, later admitted that as a young girl 48 years ago, a stray bullet had struck her in the face. But when she did not feel a lot of pain after being hit, she decided not to seek further medical treatment at that time. Ms. Zhao provided no further details on what sort of incident caused her to become involved in an exchange of gunfire.

Her doctor reports that the bullet must have originally struck Ms. Zhao much higher on her face and then gradually turned in direction to become lodged in one of her nasal passages. The patient originally told her doctor that she thought that a small stone had pierced her right temple and was the cause of all of her headaches and other facial pain.

Luckily, the doctor was able to remove the bullet, about the size of a penny at 2.5 centimeters in length, in a surgical procedure that left the patient without any significant scarring. After the successful extraction of the 48-year old bullet, Zhao proudly posed for a picture in her hospital room in Liaoning, China, holding the tiny object in her hand that had been the cause of her chronic pain for almost half a decade.
