Burglar Caught After Butt Dialing 911: “We’re good, I got enough jewelry”

Stupid Oklahoma Burglar’s 911 Butt-Dial Leads to Arrest

An Oklahoma man better leave his cell phone at home next time he decides to rob a residence in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Payton Brewster targeted a widow attending her husband’s funeral and managed to steal a variety of the bereaved woman’s treasures assisted by a male friend. When the pair headed toward a pawn shop to exchange their loot for hard cash, Brewster inadvertently butt-dialed the police emergency 911 phone number.

This resulted in police officials overhearing the pair’s conversation outlining how much they were able to get away with after ransacking the unfortunate woman’s home.

As Pittsburg County dispatchers listened with astonishment, the men proceeded to discuss the the incident, according to local station KOTV.

“We’re good, I got enough jewelry, we’re good,” one man said, according to the station.

Armed with evidence that a home invasion robbery had recently taken place, police managed to trace Brewster’s cell phone and headed to the pawn shop to make their arrests. Although Brewster’s partner in crime managed to flee, Brewster was caught red-handed with the stolen goods and promptly arrested.

Brewster is currently behind bars and facing a charge of second-degree burglary. There has been no word if he has been offered a deal to squeal on his accomplice in order to get a more lenient sentence.

The local sheriff told members of the news media that the stupidity of the burglars took him completely by surprise.

This isn’t the first time a criminal has butt dialed police either. An Oregon woman butt-dialed police while discussing a drug deal involving methamphetamine, NBC reports.

In May, suspects in Fresno, Calif., were picked up after unwittingly calling 911 and discussing drug use and burglary plans, police said. After they were arrested, police told the suspects how they were located, according to ABC News.
