Camel beauty contest

There are approximately 380,000 camels in the United Arab Emirates. Camels have the unique ability to survive the harsh, unforgiving conditions of desert life and are commonly valued as prize possessions. It is no surprise that a camel beauty contest has become a popular way to celebrate and recognize this unique and beautiful animal.

In Abu Dhabi, the Al Dhafra Camel Festival will include about 25,000 camels. This is the only camel beauty contest in the world and was created to celebrate animals that many consider “God’s gifts to the Bedouin.”

The contest is now in its seventh year, lasts for two weeks, and offers 1,500 contestants the opportunity to win Dh50 million in prizes. It also includes auctions, markets, dog races, classic car competitions and more. In addition to recognizing a beautiful, popular animal, the festival is a well-rounded celebration of culture and folklore. It will offer those who attend the ability to enter and see traditional poetry, Emirati crafts and photography contests. There will even be a Children’s Village to help teach children more about the history of their culture.

Police will attend the Festival to ensure the safety and accessibility of attendees.
