Celebrities Remember Peter O’Toole

After his death was announced on Sunday, December 15th, celebrities around the world expressed their condolences and shared their memories with the public online and in interviews on Sunday and Monday.
The United Kingdom’s Prime Minister David Cameron took to Twitter and called O’Toole’s performance in the film Lawrence of Arabia “stunning.” Ireland’s President Michael D. Higgins stated that the Irish actor was ‘‘unsurpassed for the grace he brought to every performance” and that both his country and the world had lost one of the “giants” of theatre and film.
Irish-born actor Michael Gambon sadly stated: “There won’t be any more like that, will there?” and Jason O’Mara referred to O’Toole as “an acting legend” and “a hell raiser.” Ron Howard called O’Toole “one of his generation’s greatest talents.”
Comedians also remembered the dramatic actor who often played comedic roles. Stephen Fry took to Twitter to wish O’Toole “farewell” and referred to him as a “monster, scholar, lover of life, genius…” Eddie Izzard tweeted a respectful “Farewell Peter O’Toole. Your work will be remembered.”
