Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay hit with lawsuit

Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay may be about to have a real life “Kitchen Nightmare” of his own due to a lawsuit filed against his establishment at the London hotel in New York City. According to the lawsuit, Markus Barthel, a German chef, visited to cafe to enjoy a specialty burger and ended up biting into a piece of ceramic that had made its way into the patty. The incident caused deep lacerations in his tongue and mouth with some of the injuries being permanent.

Now, what many people may not appreciate is that a chef must rely heavily on his taste much like an artist relies on the use of his hands. Also, tongue injuries are especially difficult to recover from because the constant movement during eating makes the organ prone to re-injury. In the case of Barthel, his taste buds have been impacted which has prevented him from performing his duties.

“A chef needs his tongue like a pianist needs his fingers. They have to taste everything and he says there continues to be a loss of taste in his tongue,” Bruno explained.

“The doctor said tongues are difficult to heal because people have to eat and they keep reinjuring themselves.”

Despite getting corrective surgery on his tongue, he has suffered a partial loss of taste which has ended his career as a chef. It isn’t clear how much money he is seeking in terms of damages, but it will likely involve recouping loss of income projected over his lifetime in addition to pain & suffering.
