Chilling howling traced to World Trade Centre Spire: Reports

Howling Sound Caused by World Trade Center Spire

Residents of the Tribeca neighborhood in New York City have been complaining about a weird howling sound coming from the new World Trade Center location. Accounts of the strange noise started shortly after Hurricane Sandy last fall.

“I first heard this very eerie sound during Hurricane Sandy last year,” Kenny Cummings told the Tribeca Citizen.

The 104-story Freedom Tower has already been designated the tallest building in the world, thanks to the extra height it gained from the spire which sits atop the structure. But experts now say that the movement of wind through that same spire is the source of the chilling howling that area residents have been reporting.

Residents in the area of the soon to be open World Trade Center say that the sound they hear is unmistakable in nature and sounds like the combination of two different tones. It does not ring out all day long but can last for several hours.

Builders of the new structure, which replace the twin World Trade Center towers brought crumbling down to ground level on September 11, 2001 by terrorist attack, didn’t realize that the new 1776-foot tall tower would become a unique musical instrument at certain times of the day and under certain weather conditions. There has been no word if builders will try to silence the howling.
