Cold Case: DNA evidence identified Wiltz as Clemons killer
DNA Evidence Leads to Arrest in 2006 Murder
Harris County, TX – the criminal problems of 37-year-old Alvin Wiltz just took a turn for the worse. Wiltz had just been released on probation from federal prison from a 2008 conviction for “delivery of a controlled substance”. Barely one day into his probation, he was re-arrested for the murder of his accomplice in a home invasion gone wrong.
Wiltz and his 27-year-old accomplice, Jermaine Clemons, had planned to rob the home of Oscar Richmond nearly seven years ago. The ploy was simple. Arrive at Richmond’s home during the middle of the night with Clemons posing as a natural gas worker and lure him out under the claim that a natural gas leak was forcing an evacuation of neighborhood. When Richmond would exit the home, Wiltz would assault Richmond and the two would rob his home.
The plan turned out to be ill-conceived as the neighborhood did not possess natural gas – a fact which Wiltz and Clemons did not verify beforehand and which Richmond understood. Richmond reached for his firearm and shot Clemons in the chest.
It was a that time that Wiltz sprang into action shooting multiple poorly aimed shots where he struck Mr. Richmond in the arm and his accomplice in the back of the head. DNA proved that Wiltz was at the scene of the attack and he has been arrested for Clemons’ murder.
