The first person to receive a full face transplant in the U.S. has married a woman he met in a hospital support group for burns victims.

Dallas Wiens had his facial features burned off when he touched a power line with his head while painting the Ridglea Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

27-year-old Wiens returned to the Church Saturday to be married to Jamie Nash in a ceremony attended by around 200 people.

Nash, 29 and Wiens met when they both attended meetings intended to provide support to those affected by burns; Nash was involved in a car crash that saw 70 percent of her body affected by sever burns in 2010.

‘I am blessed beyond measure that you have chosen me, and I love you with all of my heart,’ Wiens told Nash, reports The Dallas Morning News.

‘He’s marrying someone who can share about their pain that they’ve gone through, and their recoveries,’ said Sue Peterson, Del’s wife. Until recently, Wiens lived with the Petersons.

‘They have fantastic attitudes about why they’re where they are.’

In a move designed to highlight the dangers of texting while driving the bride wore a sleeveless dress, which showed off the burns that severely damaged her arms and made use of her hands difficult. Wiens was left blinded by his accident that occurred whilst he was painting the Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

‘Things happened that I didn’t think ever could be possible for me, and you made them possible,’ Nash said. ‘You gave me hope, and you gave me tender love that I will always treasure.’

Guests included church friends and people who’ve assisted Wiens and Nash in their respective recoveries, including Parkland staff.

‘I think their confidence in their healing process and getting better just made them a perfect match,’ said Ethan Gloger, a clerk in Parkland’s burn unit.Wiens’ features burned away and he was left blind

Wiens was left with no facial features following his 2008 accident and received a new nose, lips, skin, muscle and nerves from a donor that took more than 30 surgeries to put into place. Doctors were unable to restore Wiens sight, which was lost during the accident.

Wiens, who was previously married but filed for divorce before his accident in November 2008, said he wasn’t interested in getting into a relationship at first.

‘I had sworn off love and relationships,’ he said. ‘I had no desire to be in one whatsoever.’

This is the second marriage for both Wiens and Nash.

Then, on Christmas Eve, they talked all night and set up a date, reports the Daily Mail.

‘We went to dinner and a movie, and that’s all she wrote,’ he said.

According to GlobalPost, the couple sold exclusive interviews about their wedding to People magazine and allowed the ceremony to be filmed for a documentary television series about people who’ve overcome extreme challenges that’s in development, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Their stories of near death to pure bliss are extremely inspirational.

Congratulations!
