“Bad Day” Singer Was Sexually Abused As A Child

In a shocking confession, Bad Day singer, Daniel Powter, revealed his drug and alcohol dependency problems resulted from being sexually abused as a child. He alleged that his babysitter sexually abused him from the age of seven to ten years old. His parents were unaware of the incidents.

The Canadian born singer/songwriter admitted feeling too scared to reveal what had happened to him as a child. As a result, he internalized painful emotions connected with his secret. He turned to drugs and alcohol later to ease the feelings of guilt, and pain about the abusive incidents.

While being interviewed by WUSA9, Powter said, “I thought that (addiction) was my problem. But it wasn’t. That was my solution.”

He also explained feeling compelled to take a serious look at himself, and figure some things out. It was only then, once pinpointing the abusive incidents, he really understood the source of his addition problems, he said.

He was in Washington D.C. at the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, along with other entertainers. He was there to share his story of overcoming drugs. He also extended support for the U.S. drug courts limiting drug abuse jail sentences to treatment facilities, when no violent crime exists.
